Beginning in 1993 Allen has pioneered the integration of information technologies into terrestrial radio operations. After serving 15 years as a broadcast engineer at KZOK FM Seattle, he founded his first software company in 1993 to enable electronic signs on outdoor billboards to display what artist/song was “Now Playing” on the radio station.

In 2000 his 2nd company, Multipoint Inc. was sold to Real Networks as part of Real’s dot.com era quest to serve terrestrial radio’s streaming audio requirements.

In 2002 he started The Radio Experience, and is widely credited with sparking the resurgence of RDS in the United States. The Radio Experience was sold in 2005 to Broadcast Electronics where Allen still serves in an active role directing product development.

Most recently he hosted an international “plugfest” along with Kenwood, Entercom, CBS RADIO, Clear Channel, that will carry forward a new standard for enriching RDS text called RT+.

Nominated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), he is currently the Chairman of the National Radio Systems Committee RBDS Subcommittee.

His development teams have consistently defined the evolving practice of capturing radio station on air activity and distributing the information to diverse technologies while the commercial products win accolades and industry awards.
